Bournemouth's first 100Mbps homes are due to be connected in March this year, it's been announced.

H2O Networks chose Bournemouth to become the UK's first fibre optic broadband "Fibrecity" in May 2008.

H2O has revealed that it will connect an initial 30 homes to the £30 million network by March.

The Bournemouth Daily Echo newspaper has reported that over 5500 local residents and businesses have already signed-up for the service.

Elsewhere, Virgin Media has announced the roll-out of a 50Mbps network, while BT's rival plans are said to be under threat due to cost.
