The humble vending machine is about to get a 21st century makeover complete with touchscreen and interactive graphics.

Created by design agency Sapient, the Coke machine will first appear in around 20 Simon Malls in the USA, although the company told Pocket-lint that if the roll out is successful we could expect to see them in the UK in 2010.

The idea is that rather than pressing a keypad to select your drink, users would be able to "interact" with the machine, spin the bottle to get more information and even watch adverts or short promo clips.

Looking more like Microsoft's Surface but vertical, than your average busted vending machine, if it can stay vandal free it should brighten up your average shopping centre.
