We've got a nice fresh, hot-from-the-oven iPod rumour for you to tide you over until tomorrow's Apple launch event in the States.

It's a fresh take on an old Apple favourite - DigiTimes is reporting that Apple is prepping a flash-based video capable iPod.

How do they know? Well the Taiwanese manufacturers who are supplying the NAND flash gubbins have let it slip that they are supposedly for 16GB iPods.

Creative recently launched a 16GB version of its ZEN V Plus, thought to the the first flash-based MP3 player with that kind of capacity.

DigiTimes is slating this new iPod for release in September.

Tomorrow's press event in America, although said to be "Mac-focussed" and this came from the usually tight-lipped Apple HQ, is expected to see new ultra slim metallic iMacs.

Despite this, it has been rumoured as the possible launch pad for new iPod models - a shorter, video capable nano and maybe the iPod Touch.
