O2 and Vodafone to share the iPhone contract in the UK?

9to5Mac is reporting that O2 and Vodafone could share iPhone distribution in the UK.This rumour flies in the face of popular belief that Apple would go with a one or the other launch plan in Britain.
In the States the iPhone is only available via mobile carrier AT&T, and users are locked into a two year contract.
Earlier in the week the O2 CEO said that they "hoped" to be marketing the iPhone in the UK, while his Vodafone counterpart has lamented the lack of 3G.
Sources for this latest news are not revealed putting this very firmly in the realms of rumour, but we thought y'all might like to know the latest iPhone mutterings...
