Verbatim has launched the world’s first Mini Blu-ray Recordable/Rewriteable discs.The discs are to be launched for use with Hitachi's recently announced Blu-ray compatible camcorders, the the DZ-BD7H and DZ-BD70 which have 8cm BD disc recorders.
Measuring 3 inches in diameter, the new 7.5GB discs provide approximately 1 hour of continuous video capture time on a single side for high definition resolution video and approximately two hours of video capture time with images recorded at 1440 x 1080i.
The Mitsubishi Mini BD media will be available in August in Japan, where the new Hitachi BD-compatible camcorder will be launched.
Verbatim will begin shipping to other parts of the world as and when the new BD-compatible camcorders become available.
The mini discs promise to offer the same quality as full size offerings from Verbatim with a proprietary hard-coat finish with anti-static and anti-scratch properties.
Pricing was not announced.
