Reports are suggesting that Taiwanese company Acer is planning to buy Packard Bell.

Acer, the fourth biggest PC maker, is currently undergoing rapid expansion plans and is close to completing a strategy to buy European, Netherlands-based Packard Bell, reports the Taipei Times.

Henry Wang, senior public relations director at Acer, said to the Taipei Times:

"We can't offer comments on the matter, there may be some changes going on in the deal. We can't guarantee when exactly we will be able to announce the details."

Another source, the Chinese-language newspaper Apple Daily, reported that the Taiwanese maker would make an announcement before September.

Acer's shares on the Taiwan Stock Exchange jumped 4.8% following the news.
