Facebook buys internet start-up Parakey

Acquires company working on a web-based operating system

Apparently undeterred by the impending court case next week, Facebook has acquired internet start-up "Parakey" for an undisclosed amount of money.

Parakey, founded by the co-creators of Firefox, is a company, in their own words:

"seeking to bridge the gap between the immediacy of information stored on local desktop computers and the collaborative power of data stored on web sites".

Parakey has not launched any actual software or products yet so reports are woolly on what they actually do, but in an interview one of the founders apparently stated that they had been working on "a web operating system that can do everything an OS can do".

Facebook's founder Mark Zuckerberg said:

"The work they've done with Firefox and Parakey and their approach to building products fit right in at Facebook."
