AOL responds to Orange's free-lappie-with-broadband offer...
...By launching a free-lappie-with-broadband offer

AOL has responded to PC World and Orange's joint promotion that was recently announced offering customers a free laptop if they commit to a 2 year broadband deal.
AOL's offer mirrors exactly that - in conjunction with the Carphone Warehouse they are promising the same deal.
Sign up to a 24-month, £19.99 a month contract and you'll get delivered (for a £14.99 fee) a Dell Inspiron laptop and wireless router, together worth over £500, apparently.
The laptop's spec offers Windows Home Vista Basic, 1GB RAM, 80GB hard drive, 15.4-inch screen, Intel Celeron processor, DVD writer and is Wi-Fi enabled.
On the very flimsiest of quick comparisons (we would recommend a bit more digging if anyone is considering taking up either of these offers) AOL's laptop spec is better, but Orange are offering a cheaper monthly deal.
Looks like this latest move from Orange has sparked, if not a broadband price war, than an "added extras" war, which will hopefully be a good thing for the consumer.
