Disney invents new CD format with DVD-like extras

A bid to boost poor CD sales

Disney's music label Hollywood Records has launched a new kind of CD format in a bid to help ailing CD sales.

The new format is called CDVU+ which stands for CD View Plus and will offer extra features in the same way that DVDs do.

Hollywood Records are calling the extras a "digital magazine" and could include song lyrics, band photos and other relevant content, exclusive to the CDVU+.

It is hoped that these extras will appeal to fans who will appreciate more content on their favourite artists, and also will see the extras as better value for money.

The new format is also more environmentally friendly - the plastic case and booklet will be made of recyclable packaging.

Teen punkers the Jonas Brothers' album will be the first release on August 7.
