Samsung has unveiled a new 7 megapixel 3x optical zoom digital camera called the Digimax V700. The new model to the V-series features a 2in LCD screen, aluminium body and a 4cm macro mode.

Following the rest of the digital camera manufactures pack at the moment, the camera will be available in three colours; silver, red and black.

The camera features a f/2.8 ~ 5.1 Schneider 7.8mm ~ 23.4mm lens (equivalent to a 38 ~ 114mm lens in 35mm film). The macro mode captures images as close as 4cm, while the 3x optical and 10x digital zoom extends the range of the Schneider Kreuznach lens into the super-telephoto range.

Photographers have a full range of custom choices including a variety of exposure modes, five ISO settings, five flash settings and more.

The V700 utilizes a combination mechanical and electronic shutter to capture images at up to 1/2000th of a second. The Digimax V700 has an auto mode, allowing optimal exposure.

It also supports Aperture priority, Shutter priority, programmable and fully manual modes for creative shooting. It even has a live histogram incorporated to help the photographer expose the shots better.

The Digimax V700 can capture still images in single and continuous modes and store them as TIFF or JPEG. Auto White Balance (AWB), Auto Exposure bracketing (AEB) or Auto Focus bracketing (AFB) modes are included to help the user get the shots they want.

The Digimax V700 includes preprogrammed settings designed for some typical, and also some difficult to master, shooting environments. These modes include Portrait, Children, Landscape, Close-up, Sunset, Dawn, Backlight, Fireworks, Beach & Snow, Night and Text.

Other new features include composite shooting where a series of images can be combined to form one image file and a series of highlight templates where preset areas of the picture can have the focus softened.

The camera also has the ability to capture high quality MPEG-4 movie clips at up to 30 frames-per-second and to a size of 640 x 480. The V700 also features a new Movie Clip Stabilizer and carries Movie Edit functions in the camera. Also in the package is handy video editing software for a further chance to get creative on the computer.

The camera will have an RRP of £300.
