Microsoft to ship Windows without Media Player
25 January 2005 0:00 GMT / By Stuart Miles
Microsoft has announced that it will be shipping its Windows Operating system without Windows Media Player "in the coming weeks".
The announcement follows a EU court ruling against the software company forcing it to sell copies of its operating system without a media player.
The Commission found Microsoft bundled Media Player with Windows to usurp rival programs such as RealNetworks' RealPlayer and Apple's QuickTime.
Microsoft, who in the past has said that it would be impossible to create a version without a media player has decided not to appeal but instead ship the new version.
The new version will be available as an OEM edition.
