Microsoft has announced that Halo has not only beaten sales figures for the original title, but that world wide its managed to shift 6.4 million copies of the game since it launch a couple of months ago.

The success of the game, developed by Bungie, comes mostly from America where 4.4 million copies where sold making Halo 2 the most popular Xbox title yet.

The pair of games have sold more than 12.8 million units worldwide. However the sales still weren't enough to out perform the number one title in the US Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas.

Still Microsoft seem happy - it has reached 1.4 million users for its Xbox Live online gaming service, mostly thanks to the Halo 2 online compatibility.
