Canadian company DataWind is going to be launching its Pocket Surfer 2 product in the UK this month.

The Pocket Surfer 2 is a slim, 640 pixel widescreen device that works on quad band GPRS, promising "true wireless internet".

The whole selling point behind the product is that it is a portable device lets you take the web with you, as it's small enough to fit into your pocket or purse (they clearly haven't got the UK lingo sorted yet).

But wait - we already have products that let us take the web with us? Many, in fact. Why should be be interested in this new offering from the Canucks?

Datawind pitch the Pocket Surfer 2 against the PDA and smartphone market, claiming that their product can give you full-fat internet as opposed to the web-lite you've traditionally experienced on your handset.

Boasting the fastest web on a celluar network (there's that lingo barrier again) the device can apparently launch full size, original graphics web pages in between 5 and 9 seconds.

It's not going to appeal to anyone who has a particulary portable notebook and a data card.

Full spec is not yet known, but highlights are provided; the Pocket Surfer 2 has an internal high performance antenna, a full QWERTY keypad, a mouse pointer and a backlit display.

The Pocket Surfer 2 charges via mini-USB and offers not particularly ground breaking active usage of two hours, and a standby time of eight, but it is slim - the gadget measures 6 inches by 2.98 inches by 0.6 inches.

The device will cost you £179.98 and then usage pricing comes in at £9.99 for up to 50 hours usage a month and £19.98 for unlimited monthly browsing.
