CES 2008: Pretec unveils highest capacity CF cards to date

Pretec has launched its biggest and fastest CompactFlash memory card.

The new CF line-up is headed up by the 48GB card but capacities from 1GB are available.

Pretec, which claims to be the second manufacturer to offer CF cards (in 1995) says that the key feature of the new cards are their durability.

The cards are claimed to be at least 10 times more durable than typical CFs cards as they have a metal housing and ruggedized construction.

The storage for 48GB is almost the same as 12 DVDs, or 69 compact discs. Pretec says that users can save around 40,000 photos in regular size or around 12,000 songs.

The range is capable of reading at up to 35MB (the 233x cards) or 50MB (333x cards) per second.

Pretec adds that the cards offer low power consumption using an automatic power management system and have no power data retention so no battery power is required.

Prices are not yet available.
