Canon has introduced a prototype CMOS sensor that boasts a frankly amazing 50 megapixel sensor. This new sensor is twice the resolution of even the closest competitor, but what's more impressive is that they've managed to get it down to 19 x 28mm – the same size used in DSLRs, which means, in theory, it could be brought to market.
There are no plans to launch this just yet, so we can rest easy for now with our measly, pathetic, poxy, low-res 12MP digi-cams. Sigh.
