Panasonic announces new Wi-Fi Skype phone, the KX-WP1050
Panasonic has announced availability and details of its latest VoIP wireless phone, the snappily-named KX-WP1050.
The phone's Skype certification means that users can easily access their Skype accounts and take advantage of free Skype-to-Skype calls, SkypeOut calls to landlines and mobiles, and SkypeIn calls.
Because the phone comes with a base unit it can be used without a PC; a number of travel accessories means that it can be used with any Wi-Fi connection anywhere.
Bundled with the phone includes a travel router so that users can set up a Wi-Fi hotspot in their room as long as they have access to broadband.
Realising that Wi-Fi connections can sometimes be difficult to make, Panasonic has designed a complete kit that promises a secure wireless connection. In addition, the AC adapter can handle all voltages so that it can be used anywhere.
Other features of the phone include an intuitive menu system, a loud speakerphone, and a headset jack. It weighs only 4oz, so that it's light to pack, and its battery can provide up to 4.5 hours of talk time.
The KX-WP1050 is available online in the US for around $400.
