Sony BDP-S300 for the US market announced
Sony has announced its second Blu-ray player in the US, although it won't be available until this summer.
Retailing for about $600, the BDP-S300 can output 1920 x 1080p progressive HD video through its HDMI connection.
It supports various video formats, including MPEG-2 and 4, along with AVC and VC1, and supports DVD playback as well as CD and MP3 CDs.
For those who own an HDTV set without HDMI, an analog component output for 1080i interlaced is available.
The player promises to upscale standard DVDs through the HDMI input.
Sony's Bravia Theatre Sync, which the company is pushing, offers an easy on-button control over the player and other inputs, and is supported by the new Blu-ray player.
