A new company is hoping to change the way we make calls from our mobile with the launch of a service that using a mobile version of VoIP.
Called fring, the service promises to offer an alternative to highly priced GSM air time charges with the launch of its free, PC-independent peer-to-peer mobile internet telephony application.
Users can make free calls anywhere utilising either a Wi-Fi connection or an existing 3G data plan instead of GSM (talk) minutes, giving them the freedom to leverage their mobile phone and its internet connection to its greatest potential.
Based on mVoIP (mobile VoIP) technology, fring is a free, PC-independent, downloadable mobile phone application that enables anyone with a compatible handset to talk and chat to other fring users and Skype and GoogleTalk contacts for free.
fring users calling over 3G mobile networks use only the data within their existing subscription agreement and are not charged for air time.
On opening the fring application and registering a user ID, subscribers can search for friends, add Skype and Google Talk buddies and see instantly who is "online". Then a simple button press initiates either a call or a chat session.
fring application is compatible with the following handsets: Nokia models, 6630, 6680, 6681, 6682, N70, N72, N80, N80i, N90. In the following handsets some features may operate partially: Nokia N71, N73, N75, N91, N92, N93, E60, E61 and E70.
