Sony Ericsson W999i "confirmed" by mistake

Shinobu handset turns up on GSM website

Softpedia are reporting the "confirmed" existence of the Sony Ericsson W999i after the phone was mistakenly listed on the GSM association website giving a link to the Sony Ericsson page.

For a while now rumours and supposedly insider pics have been doing the rounds for this exciting looking phone, code-named Shinobu, with one handset reportedly being sold on a Polish auction site, but this is the first time any kind of verification has been provided, although Sony Ericsson are still keeping mum about the whole thing.

Previous images of the W999i look slightly different to this product shot, and previously the phone has been shown as black, and a similar orangey-red to the Walkman logo.

What looks particularly interesting, apart from the oh-so-slim slider design, is the full QWERTY keypad, the large 2.4-inch screen and the raft of multimedia features this phone is said to possess, although all touted specs are still very much TBC.

We'll update you as we find out more…
