Timex Bodylink tracks 1310 miles in Endurance 50 challenge
Ultramarathon runner Dean Karnazes' challenge to run 50 marathons in 50 states in 50 days was completed yesterday when he crossed the finish line of the ING New York City Marathon. Wearing the Timex Ironman Triathlon Bodylink System in all 50 races, Timex was able to track all 1310 miles run and each of the 150,000 calories burned, helping Karnazes ensure that he was running at peak performance at all times.
Karnazes took on the quest of the Endurance 50 to challenge perceived notions of human endurance and motivate people across the nation to get out, get running and be fit. What started as a test of human endurance turned out to be a true testament of Karnazes' own physical fitness.
While running many of the marathons in a four hour and under pace, his Bodylink reported an average heart rate of only 110 beats per minute throughout many of the 50 races. Even toward the tail end of the Endurance 50, where one would expect his body to be overtaxed and his heart rate to be elevated, his heart rate was steady and under control, just as it had been at the beginning of the challenge.
Throughout the Endurance 50, Timex provided exclusive timing, GPS tracking and heart rate monitoring for Karnazes' every step and heart beat along the way. Timex monitored his heart rate and used the latest Timex GPS 3D sensor to track his pace, distance and elevation.
With the additional use of the Timex Data Recorder, all of Dean's performance data was recorded and uploaded to http://www.timextracker.com. The site breaks down each individual race stats as well as the cumulative stats from all 50 marathons.
"Timex would like to congratulate Dean on his outstanding performance through the 50 day challenge", says Timex President and CEO Joe Santana.
"Dean embodies the same passion and ideals as Timex - performance, endurance, and living in the now. The numbers tracked by his Bodylink speak for themselves; Dean appears to be one of the fittest athletes on Earth."
Dedicated to healthy active living, Timex offers product to motivate people of all ages to become physically active. The Timex Ironman Triathlon Bodylink System retails for $299.95/£249.99 and is available for purchase at http://www.timex.com and sporting goods stores worldwide.
