Channel 4 Radio has made a move into the virtual world as it has become the first UK radio station to launch a permanent presence in Second Life.

Channel 4 Radio’s launch into the 6.2 million-strong virtual population of Second Life will give visitors the chance to pick up their own free Channel 4 Radio watch enabling them to be teleported to the island at any time and access Channel 4 Radio wherever they are in Second Life.

Second Lifers will be able to access the radio content from four main areas on the newly launched Second Life island. People with a shared interest in accessing pedigree content will get access to three platforms – music, news and entertainment - purposely designed on Second Life for you to listen, dance and chat to fellow islanders.

Nathalie Schwarz, Channel 4’s director of radio, said: "Second Life is an exciting new venture propelling us to the heart of the virtual world and the ever-increasing Second Life community".

"Channel 4 Radio’s launch in to Second Life demonstrates our commitment to innovation from the groundbreaking content we strive to deliver for our listeners to the way in which we reach new audiences through new technology and new platforms."
