Today’s website of the day is googlesightseeing.com and despite the name it is in no way affiliated with the internet giant, but it does make very good use of Google’s assets.
Almost as soon as Google Earth was released a couple of years ago, internet chatter started to report weird and wonderful things caught by the satellites as they photographed the face of the planet. The Second World War bomber caught in flight over suburban Cambridgeshire and Area 51 are two you may remember.
The bods behind this site must have realised that there are a lot of people out there with enough time on their hands to find pretty much anything of interest using Google Earth and Google Maps. And they weren’t wrong.
Here you can search for all kinds of places that have captured the attention of the masses, and you really can see the world without leaving your desk.
Hours of fun.
