IFA 2006: USRobotics launches Skype enabled DECT phone

USRobotics has announced the launch of the USR9630 Cordless Phone for Skype and the USR9631 Accessory Handset allowing users to make calls via their landline or Skype accounts from the same phone.

While Philips has just announced the launch of a Skype phone that doesn't need a PC to connect to the internet at IFA 2006 in Berlin, Germany, USRobotics famous for its modems and routers, still requires a PC running Skype to work.

The device which connects to both a traditional phone line and an available USB port on a PC running Skype will allow its users to make and receive Skype calls and ordinary telephone calls.

The system will support up to four handsets, offers DECT connectivity for a range up to 300 metres and sports a LCD screen access to Skype contacts and personal phonebook entries away from the computer.

The USR9630 Cordless Dual Phone will be available in September in North America and Europe. The MSRP is $119.99. The USR9631 Accessory Handset will be available in October for an MSRP of $69.99. The company has yet to announce a price for the UK.
