Asus MyPal A639 combines GPS and PDA functions

Asus has launched a new handheld device that combines the utility of a satnav device with the functions of a PDA.

The MyPal A639 GPS PDA comes with 1GB of flash memory so that maps and other data can be stored on the device.

The swivel antenna means that the device can be viewed in portrait or landscape format because it will always remain parallel to the sky.

GPS, WLAN 802.11b and g, and Bluetooth connectivity means that the device has a range of options with which to exchange data, while the SD expansion slot ensures that the memory never runs out.

MyPal is powered by an Intel Xscale 416MHz processor, and operates on Microsoft Windows Mobile 5.0.

Bundled software includes Windows Media Player Mobile, Pocket Outlook, Calendar, Internet Explorer Mobile, Word Mobile, and Voice Recorder to make use of the inbuilt microphone.

It also supports full synchronisation with a home PC.
