Apple reports record revenue and earnings
Apple has reported its second highest quarterly revenue and earnings in the whole of its history during its fiscal quarter running until 1 July 2006.
It posted revenue of $4.37 billion and a net quarterly profit of $472m.
Apple also shifted over 1.3 million Mac computers, and an astounding 8.1 million iPods during just one quarter, which translates to 12% growth in Macs after the launch of its Intel-based computers, and a 32% growth in iPods.
Steve Jobs, Apple CEO and chief spokesperson, said, "We're thrilled with the growth of our Mac business, and especially that over 75% of the Macs sold during the quarter used Intel processors".
"This is the smoothest and most successful transition that any of us have ever experienced."
"In addition, iPod continud to ear a US market share of over 75%, and we are extremely excited about future iPod products in our pipeline."
The results show a year-over-year revenue growth of 24%.
In related news, research firm IDC's latest report shows that Apple is supplying nearly 5% of all PCs in the US, which is up from 3.7% in the last quarterly report.
