Sky joins the broadband service race with free internet service package
Sky is making a departure from its satellite broadcasting and is launching a free broadband internet service today.
Thanks to the acquisition of internet service provider Easynet last year, Sky is ready to compete with companies like BT and Orange in the broadband internet service market.
The offer gives existing Sky customers the 2MB basic package for free; the company anticipates that about 30% of users will sign up for it.
New subscribers can get broadband for as little as £15 a month.
Sky is putting a lot of investment into the project, and expects to plunge £250 million into it immediately, with a further £400 million to be devoted to it over the next 3 years.
