Plextor throws its hat into the Blu-ray ring

Plextor has added its name to the list of Blu-ray drive manufacturers.

Its first Blu-ray drive is called the PX-B900A, and is an internal ATAPI re-writer driver capable of speeds up at 2x for a maximum capacity of 25GB for single layer and 50GB for dual layer.

Sales and Marketing Manager of Plextor Europe, Rudy De Meirsman, said, "We are delighted to be launching our first Blu-ray device. Plextor has a long history in providing premium, high reliability optical drives and the new PX-B900A is no exception".

The drive also functions as a dual-layer DVD drive that supports DVD+/-R/RW and RAM, accepts both 12cm and 8cm discs, and achieves 8x write speeds to DVD and 24x speeds to CD-R.

Plextor's device is set to hit the shelves in the autumn, in September/October. No word yet on pricing.
