HP has confirmed the rumours from the weekend and launched a 20-inch laptop called the HP Pavilion HDX.

However unlike the rumours which suggested that the company would be launching a gaming laptop to go up against Dell's XPS M2010 laptop, the new model will focus on offering home entertainment rather than gaming.

Lovingly called "The Dragon", the new model features a 1080p 20.1-inch screen at the core of its design.

The HDX also features a dual hinge, similar to the Dell XPS M2010 that allows consumers the flexibility to move or tilt the screen for optimal viewing plus a dockable full-function HDX Media Center remote control that slots into the top of the laptops design next to the keyboard.

The new model will also feature a HDTV tuner as well as a HD DVD Rom with SuperMulti DVD+R/RW double layer drive however there is no option for Blu-ray.

"HP has gone with HD DVD because it seems to be the popular consumer HD format", a HP spokesperson told us at the Making Connections event in Shanghai. "There is a roadmap for Blu-ray, however not in the near future."

The HDX will also feature four stereo speakers and an integrated Triple Base Reflex Subwoofer.

Tech Specs include an Intel Core 2 Processor technology, an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 2600 XT graphics card with 256MB of memory, dual hard drives supporting up to 400GB of storage and 4GB of memory.

The company also announced the launch of the HP Pavilion dv2000, dv6000, dv9000 laptop models.
