Wilderness ARC opens entries for 2006 event
Wilderness ARC opened its doors on 10 January for entries into its 2006 event; the second race also constitutes the UK's only Adventure Racing World Championship qualifying event and has been selected to become the Adventure Racing World Championships race in 2007. The event will be staged between 29th May and 2nd June 2006.
The first Wilderness ARC established itself as a classic and it returns in 2006 amidst eager speculation about where the route will take competitors this year. The event will be held in the Western Highlands of Lochaber, Scotland.
Of course, the route will be kept a closely guarded secret until the eve of the race. Course designer Gary Tompsett explains “This area is vast and we have only just touched the sides in 2005. We delivered a fantastic experience for racers but there is much more to come. I have already started reconnoitring for this year's event and my job is an absolute joy. Thick forests, deep lochs, mysterious mountains and enchanted glens; this truly is a magical area through which to race”.
Phil Humphreys, Managing Director of ACE Races, said: “Jim, Gary and I are gearing up for another epic Wilderness ARC in 2006. The course area maintains many surprises and the terrain and weather will continue to throw up some truly unique challenges. We're excited about this year's event and competitors will be too”.
With the support of a unique partnership of Scotland's events and tourism bodies, the ARC will again be expertly managed and slickly run. With a maximum of 40 teams to be allowed on the starting grid, the ARC is this year's hot ticket for AR in the UK. Bookings can now be made online at www.wildernessarc.com. The entry fee is £1800 per team of four people and can be secured by the payment of a £400 deposit.
Entries close on 28th April 2006.
