Acer America Corporation has made an official announcement for all users of its notebooks with a lithium-ion battery containing Sony-made cells to be cautious with the product.

Customers are advised to only use the notebook computer using AC power until a replacement battery pack is received, as part of a voluntary replacement programme.

So far there have been 16 reported incidents of damage made by the machines. These reports were associated with earlier recalls by other notebook computer manufacturers of batteries containing these Sony cells. Fortunately the previous reports involved only minor property damage and two minor burns.

Check the links below if you may have these batteries for further details. These notebooks were sold between May 2004 through November 2006 for between $500 and $1500. So if you bought one, check the serial numbers on the links below, Acer will provide a replacement battery.
