Google bring local search to UK

Google has finally launched its local search and map service in the UK. The service, which has been running for sometime in America will offer UK readers a localised business listing in a specific geographic location for example a pizza parlour in Bracknell.

The system works by pulling data in the UK from Yell.com and the information is then gleamed and represented on map according to the location you typed in the search bar.

Results are returned with weblinks, phone number, address details, directions and a map provided by Navteq Tele Atlas software.

Giving the system a quick run for its money the results returned where all very relevant and you can restrict your search to 1 mile, 5 miles, 15 miles and 45 miles from your chosen destination. You'll be surprised how many Pet shops there are within a 1 mile radius of soho for example.

The service is currently free and can be tried here:local.google.co.uk
