Canon announces multitude of new models - the A400, A95, S70, G6 and the EOS 20D
Canon has announced a host of new cameras for the beginner, prosumer and professional photographer alike. The new models are mostly updates of previous versions available on the market.
Not to be outdone by the need to have your latest digital camera in a multitude of colours Canon has also announced the A400. An entry level camera that will be available in Silver, Sky Blue, Spring Green and Sunset Gold. The 3.2 Megapixel camera features a 2.2x optical zoom. The camera also promises a high performance 9-point AiAF autofocus, the Intelligent Orientation Sensor and 12 shooting modes. The PowerShot A400 will be available from September 2004 for £149
Meanwhile the ‘A' series also gets a new model - the PowerShot A95 - the new A-series flagship. Replacing the PowerShot A80, the A95 builds on its predecessor and features an increased sensor size of 5.0 Megapixels, and the addition of FlexiZone AF/AE, a larger 1.8” vari-angle LCD and VGA movie mode. It also includes eight special scene presets, taking the tally to 21 shooting modes - more than any other Canon digital camera. The PowerShot A95 will be available from September 2004 for £319.
The PowerShot S70 is a 7.1 megapixel variant on the 5.1 megapixel S60. The main addition is a new UA lens that allows for a reduction in lens size, enabling an smaller body shape despite the lens' 28-100mm focal length and 4cm macro capabilities. The PowerShot S70 will be available from September 2004 for £499.
Not missing out on the action the G5 gets an update as well. Like the S70 it too offers 7.1 megapixel. Successor to the popular PowerShot G5, the G6 promises dramatically improved image quality through improvements to the fast f2.0 4x zoom lens and image processing algorithms. AF speed is up to 55% faster than its predecessor, while start-up time improves by approximately 30%. The PowerShot G6 will be available from September 2004 for £599.
Finally, Canon has also announced the launch of the EOS 20D its top of the range Digital SLR camera. With a newly developed second generation APS-C size 8.2 Megapixel CMOS sensor, 5fps shooting speed, 9-point AF and Canon's new distance-linked ETTL II flash system, the EOS 20D is the first semi-professional camera to deliver all the performance, speed and flexibility of high-end film SLR cameras.
Replacing the critically acclaimed EOS 10D, the EOS 20D is powered by the same DIGIC II processor found in Canon's professional series EOS-1D Mark II. Prices start at £1279.99 for the body and £1349.99 for the Lens Kit.
