Acer announce TravelMate 8000 series of laptops

Acer has launched its new notebook range- the TravelMate 8000 notebook series. The series is based on the latest Intel Pentium M CPU codenamed Dothan offering improved speed.

The top of the range model will feature an 2.0GHz Intel Pentium M processor, Intel 855GME chipset with 400MHz System and Intel PRO/Wireless 2200BG network connection for Wi-Fi® and CCX compatible Wireless connections based on IEEE 802.11g norm. Standard 512MB DDR333 SDRAM memory is scalable to 2048MB and 80GB hard disk.

Depending on the model, the built-in optical drive is either DVD/CD-RW combo or DVD-Super Multi burner and all Acer TravelMate 8000 notebooks are equipped with a 4-in-1 card reader that supports Secure Digital, SmartMedia, MultiMediaCard and Memory Stick although not featuring Compact Flash or xD.

Acer is also guaranteeing a 5 hour battery life and charge in only 3.5 hours with the system in use. All models in the range feature a 15.0” SXGA+ 200-nit high-brightness display supporting 1400 x 1050 pixel resolution, ATI MOBILITY RADEON 9700 graphics card with 64MB/128MB video memory, DualView support, which allows contemporaneous management of LCD display and external CRT monitor, as well as MPEG-2/DVD hardware functionality. The SoundBlaster-Pro and MS-Sound compatible audio section integrates speakers and microphone.

The TravelMate 8000 series provides easy connection to the local network, Internet or to Remote Access Servers and to email servers via the integrated V.92 56Kbit/sec fax modem and flexible Gigabit LAN network adapter. As part of Centrino™ technology, an Intel PRO/Wireless 2200BG (IEEE 802.11g) technology based Wireless module. Additionally the unit also features Bluetooth.

TravelMate 8000 series models are fully equipped with I/O ports including four USB 2.0, an infrared port (FIR), a S-Video port (NTSC/PAL) and a PCMCIA CardBus type II slot. Lastly, TravelMate 8000 notebooks include a “Firewire” IEEE 1394 port for multimedia peripherals providing high data exchange performance and a DVI digital port.
