After months of rumours, Apple, the company famous for the iconic iPod MP3 player today has announced that it will launch a new accessory for the popular music player: a mobile phone add-on for the iPod.

Having become the market leader within the portable MP3 player arena overtaking the likes of Rio and Creative, Apple is hoping to become the number one player in the phone market taking on the likes of BlackBerry, Nokia, and Sony Ericsson.

The new bolt-on gives iPod users the ability to call contacts within their stored contacts. With no dial pad and no touch screen though, to dial new numbers users have to scroll through the number pad in the same way they traditionally did with old bakelite telephones from the 1960s.

We are sorry to say, but the story is nothing more than an April Fool and is completely made up by us here at Pocket-lint.co.uk. For the record, Apple has nothing to do with this April Fool, and to our knowledge they do not plan to release a mobile phone add-on for the iPod.

Thanks for reading Pocket-lint.co.uk and let's hope something like this will be available one day!
