Navman launches first GPS Navigation add-on for your Palm
PRESS RELEASE: Navman-Europe is set to announce the European launch of the GPS4460, the first-ever-wireless GPS (Global Positioning System) solution for Palm handheld PDAs. The new solution will allow owners of Bluetooth™ enabled Palm OS5® PDAs, (including the PalmOne Tungsten® T2 and T3 and the latest Bluetooth™ enabled Sony Cliés), to benefit from integrated navigation, allowing them to effortlessly navigate from door-to-door across the whole of Europe, using the latest 2004 European mapping and GPS navigation technology.
The GPS4460 comes complete with a Bluetooth™ GPS receiver and SmartST™ navigation software, and retails at approximately £299* (€449). With the latest 3D view colour maps it will guide the driver through a journey using turn-by-turn voice instructions. This easy-to-use, intuitive system also offers the option to find the shortest or quickest route to any destination, as well as the ability to have locations and personal addresses programmed as favourites, letting the user find that all important destination again and again. Palm and Sony owners can also maximise their expansive display by also viewing the maps in a landscape format.

Drivers that encounter diversions or make wrong turns can automatically be re-routed by the Back-On-Track™ technology while whole journeys can be planned around its extensive POI (points of interest) library, including shopping, entertainment, amenities, food and drink, buildings and monuments, accommodation, transport, automotive facilities, sports facilities, institutions, medical services, and natural attractions.
The GPS4460 uses a high specification Bluetooth™ receiver that delivers an operation time of up to 30 continuous hours from three AAA batteries. This impressive battery performance is
unrivalled in this market sector. With a data transmission range of up to 10 metres, the GPS4460 frees the Palm OS5® PDA to be positioned anywhere, highlighting its flexibility.
Set up and go
Setting up the GPS4460 is couldn't be simpler either. With complete street level maps for 16 European countries on CD ROM (UK, Ireland, France, Germany, Italy, Belgium, Netherlands, Luxembourg, Austria, Switzerland, Portugal, Spain, Norway, Denmark, Finland and Sweden), users simply get their industry standard 128MB memory card (purchased separately) and slide it to the supplied memory card reader that allows super-fast map transfer. Users then can sync the card reader to their computer and download the relevant maps onto the memory card. Users can then slot the card into their PDA and access the maps for their drive across the continent.
The GPS 4460 also ships with a vehicle power adapter, vehicle mounting brackets, and both an armband and lanyard for outdoor personal use.
The GPS4460 also joins the GPS4410 solution (Bluetooth solution for PocketPC, retailing at £299//€449) and GPS4100 (GPS receiver hardware only, retailing for £199/€289), completing the refreshed Navman Europe range of wireless GPS solutions for the PocketPC and Palm handhelds.
