Facebook opts for facelift

Growth surge brings new site design to Facebook

11 April 2007 11:10 GMT / By Ryan Haynes

Facebook, the social networking site that hopes to take the mantle from MySpace and Bebo has announced a bunch of new features to its site available from today.

Facebook has added new features to simplify individual profile navigation to keep tabs on friends and associates. Unlike MySpace where you have to go to the person’s profile, Facebook has incorporated all friend-relationships into the users profiles so you can see how contacts are interacting with groups.

The social networking site claims to have developed these new designs in response to feedback from users.

The site's popularity is tied to the control users have over what other members see, which discourages members from cloaking their identify in the anonymity of many sites, so much so that many members post their mobile phone numbers.

The company says it has 19 million unique registered users across 47,000 regional, work-related, college or high-school associated networks.
