Rumours are starting to surface that blog tracking website Technorati is up for sale.

According to commentators online, the rumours have started because the normally secretive site has just posted recent traffic figures showing a massive growth in visitor numbers.

According to founder Dave Sifry, Technorati has experienced astonishing growth in visitor numbers, with 9m users in March this year, compared with 3.5m in January. In addition, page views rose by 53% in March, and 141% since January.

Also suggesting a sale is Technorati comments suggesting that it is a "media company" rather than just a search engine.

Technorati's "State of the Blogosphere" report is due later this week.
