Not one to give up a fight easily, the HD DVD Promotional Group has announced that it plans to release over 70 HD DVD titles in the coming months. The news comes on the back of massive price drops in the US from Toshiba to boost sales of its range of players.New films coming HD DVD way include a re-boxed high definition version of the Matrix Trilogy and Oscar winner DreamGirls.
Toshiba's price drop in the US will be in place on 1 April with the company's entry level HD-A2 costing just $399.99 compared to Sony's Blu-ray player costing over three times as much at $1400.
From the six studios, the following schedules were released with Big Blockbusters finally getting releases:
March sees Children of Men, Happy Feet, March of the Penguins and National Geographic: Relentless Enemies.
April gets Good Shepherd, Smokin' Aces, Payback: Straight, The Director’s Cut, A Scanner Darkly, Dog Day Afternoon, School for Scoundrels, The Game, The Jerk, Feast, Freedom Writers, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Nutty Professor, Failure to Launch.
May sees the release of The Ultimate Matrix Collection, The Complete Matrix Trilogy, Dreamgirls, 40-Year Old Virgin Unrated, Flags of Our Fathers: Special Collector’s Edition, The Hitcher, Mission: Impossible, Mission: Impossible 2, Black Christmas (2006), Harsh Times, The Battle of the Bulge, The Road Warrior, The Fountain, Smokey & the Bandit, Alpha Dog, The Skeleton Key, The River, Midnight Run, The Frighteners, Dragonheart, The Big Lebowski, Lost in Translation
