Napster to offer ring tones in US

10 December 2004 18:14 GMT / By Stuart Miles

Napster is to enter the ring tone market in America following a deal with Dwango, a mobile developer and publisher of entertainment content. The service, called Napster Mobile, will offer customers the chance to download ring tones directly on to their phone alongside device targeted promotional offers redeemable for PC downloads via Napster's digital music service on the PC.

The service, which is scheduled to launch in the U.S. and Canada in 2005, will include a specially designed Napster interface. Napster Mobile customers will also be able to choose ring tones from an extensive song catalogue while they earn credits for use on Napster's full-featured PC service.

There is currently no plans to bring the service to the UK, however as Napster has rolled out previous American offerings to the UK public, we would expect to see the service sometime next year.
