Sony BDP-S1E standalone Blu-ray player announced

Casino Royale also confirmed as biggest selling Blu-ray title

Sony has confirmed the launch of its second (first if you don't include the PlayStation 3, Blu-ray player in the UK - the BDP-S1E.

Specs of the new player include 1080p support, a 1080p video upscaling facility, which takes your old movies out of the DVD-Video domain and into near full HD resolution and 24p True Cinema, meaning viewers can watch films at the authentic speed and pitch as the director intended for the first time

Other features include up to 8 channels of uncompressed linear PCM digital audio output via HDMI as well as Dolby Digital Plus,

The player is expected to cost around £1000 when it launches in the UK this summer.

In other Blu-ray news, Sony announced that Casino Royale has become the biggest selling Blu-ray title with over 100,000 copies sold worldwide and 10,000 copies sold in the UK dispite the film being offered for free for users who sign up to the Sony PlayStation network.
