Toyota has unveiled its new range-topping Yaris – the SR 1.8.

Powered by a new petrol engine with Dual VVT-i technology and with sports-tuned steering and suspension, body kit, 17-inch rims and a load of premium equipment spec such as climate control and fully adjustable steering column, and you get a rather formidable all-round package. Vehicle stability control, traction control, ABS, electronic brakeforce distribution and brake assist are all chucked in too. SR versions of the 1.3 petrol Yaris and 1.4 D-4D 90 diesel are also planned.

The 1.8 offers 131bhp and 0-62mph acceleration in 9.3 seconds, a rather disappointing economy of 39.2mpg produces CO2 emissions of 170g/km.

The SR replaces the T Spirit badged warm versions of the Yaris. Prices start at £12,995.
