Toshiba has announced a third HD DVD player in the UK today.

The HD-EP10 joins the existing HD-E1 and HD-XE1 models (see links below for reviews) and ups the HD-E1s performance to offer 1080p full HD output.

In Europe the player will retail 699 Euro and as well as outputting 1080p from suitable HD DVD movies. The player will also upscale standard DVD discs to 720p, 1080i and 1080p.

The new player will as expected be able to playback all major formats (except Blu-ray of course) including HD DVD, DVD, DVD-R, DVD-ROM, DVD-RW and CD formats.

Next-generation sound to match is delivered via support for the Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby True HD and DTS HD formats.

“Toshiba’s HD-E1 and HD-XE1 set benchmarks in high definition home entertainment, both in terms of performance and value for money”, said Olivier Van Wynendaele, Deputy General Manager, HD DVD, Toshiba Information Systems(UK) Ltd., “and the HD-EP10 raises the bar yet again. We want consumers to experience the highest HD resolution currently available at a price that’s right for the market - and that’s exactly what the HD-EP10 achieves".
