Lenovo ditches google and signs with Microsoft Live

All its computers will come with new search engine

Lenovo has ditched its collaboration with Google and announced that it has teamed up with Microsoft instead.

From today, the software giant's search engine, Microsoft Live will be the default choice on the computer makers machines.

The global agreement will mean all Lenovo PCs sold worldwide including ThinkPad notebooks, ThinkCentre desktops and Lenovo-branded PCs will come pre-loaded with Windows Live services.

“Building strong partnerships is a key element of the Windows Live strategy”, said Steve Berkowitz, senior vice president of the Online Services Group at Microsoft. “Working with a globally scaled PC maker like Lenovo, we can help millions of people worldwide use Windows Live services to connect to the people and information they care about most.”

Previously, the company had been shipping its machines with a suite of Google applications, including Google's browser toolbar, search software, and photo-editing program, Picasa.
Lenovo said it plans to continue to work with Google in other areas.

Neither company disclosed the terms of the deal.
