Tesco have released an interesting new gizmo that should make it easier for people to adopt VoIP calling. The Tesco Internet Phone Adapter converts a traditional landline handset to making calls over the Internet instead of over a telephone line.
It means you can essentially create a second phone line without paying for addition line rental, and make lower-cost calling without having your computer on.
Tesco's VoIP plan includes international calls to 25 countries for 2p a minute, and calls to UK mobiles for 10p a minute.
If you sign up for Extra, you can make calls for 1p a minute to UK landlines if you top up by £5 a month or more.
The Adapter packs costs £50 in Tesco, and contains £5 airtime. Phones, Landline Phones, VoIP, Tesco
