PMA 2007: HP brings in camera touch-up to Photosmart R837 digital camera

HP has announced the industry's first digital camera to feature an in-camera photo touch-up tool, the HP Photosmart R837 digital camera.

Rather than offer yet more megapixels, the company has focused its efforts on improving and offering software applications within the camera to help photographers.

"We are not interested in digital SLR cameras, but rather than the imaging pipeline to make consumer photography easy", said Michael Diehl, vice president of Digital Photography and Entertainment Imaging and Printing Group for EMEA.

The touch-up tool will allow you to remove blemishes from the subject's face, as well as featuring a feature called Pet-eye fix that promised to adjust glowing pet eyes that often appear when photographing pets.

The camera will also feature the ability to tag photos for easy sharing with an in-camera image organisation feature as well as the company's Snapfish online photo sharing album.

Tech specs include a 7 megapixel resolution, a 3x internal optical zoom lens 3-inch display with a 170 degree viewing angle, HP steady photo anti-shake feature helps to prevent blurred photos in lower light accounting for hand shake and moving subjects, 32MB internal memory, a VGA video with audio shoots at 24 frames per second and the ability to charge the camera via USB.

The company also announced the launch of two new entry-level M-Series digital cameras called the M437 a 5 megapixel compact and rather confusingly the M537 a 6 megapixel model.

The company has also announced a new compact photo printer called the Photosmart A440 camera and printer docks.
