So what's next for Nikon after the release of the P5000? The company also launched models in its S-series and L-series.

Encased in brushed metal, the S500 is a compact with 7.1MP and a 3x optical zoom that also boasts Vibration Reduction and ISO 2000, although at a lesser resolution and quality.

On the back is a 2.5-inch LCD; the camera also features a one-touch portrait button that activates the Face-priority Autofocus.

Other specifications of this £250 camera include 15 Scene modes, Help buttons for novice shooters, 26MB of internal memory, and a TV movie mode with resolution of 640x480 at 30fps.

Next up are the Coolpix S50 and S50c, which are both being made available exclusively at certain retailers, the first at DSG retailers and the second through Amazon.co.uk.

These are super-slim models with large LCD screens at 3-inches. They both boast 7.2MP, as well as Vibration Reduction and a maximum ISO of 1600.

So what's the difference between the two? The S50c has Wi-Fi capabilities so that you can send images via any wireless connection and download images quickly to your PC.

Both are available in silver, black and beige, but pricing has not yet been announced.

Bringing up the rear of this camera cavalcade s the S500, and three models in the entry-level L-series, the L10, L11, and L12.

The S200 is a slightly slimmer version of the S500, and retails for £50 less. It features 7.1MP, a 3x zoom, a 2.5-inch screen, and electronic vibration reduction.

And finally, there's the L-series; the L10 and L11 are almost the same model, but the former boasts 5MP and a 2-inch screen, and the latter, 6MP and a 2.4-inch screen. Both feature 3x zooms and ISO up to 800.

The L12, which will go on sale at the beginning of April for £150, is the top of the entry-level cameras, and features a 3x zoom, optical image stabilisation, a 7MP sensor, and a 2.5-inch screen.
