Virgin Media, keen to prove itself as a provider of top quality content has today announced a deal with HBO to offer shows like The Sopranos, Six Feet Under and Entourage on-demand through its new service.

Although available on scheduled TV, the other shows including Curb Your Enthusiasm, Band of Brothers and From the Earth to the Moon will be available as part of the standard monthly charge for Virgin Media customers taking the top "XL" TV package.

The agreement sees Virgin Media strengthen its TV-on-demand offering with further compelling content, following recent deals with Channel 4, The Walt Disney Company's Buena Vista International Television and Alliance Atlantis for the CSI franchise.

"By shortly adding more than 600 hours of fantastic viewing to our library, we're putting our customers firmly in control of what they want to watch, when they want to watch it", said Ernie Cormier, chief commercial officer of Virgin Media, said

All Virgin TV packages include access to one of Europe's most extensive TV-on-demand libraries, with more than 500 movie titles, the pick of the last week's viewing, comedy, drama series and music videos.

Sky is expected to announce an on-demand service next month.
