Stargate SG-1 TV Series gets FPS, fan mod canned

It's always dangerous making a mod based on existing copyright such as Star Wars, Trek or Harry Potter as the makers of the Stargate Mod for Unreal Tournament 2003 found out. This was the message from moddb.com;

“This mod will get shut down.

Sorry.

Epic and DE are ALREADY working on an official Stargate FPS using Unreal technology.”

If they're lucky hopefully the modders will have been offered the chance to work on the licensed full game. This is the first we've heard of it though. Stargate SG-1 is one of those rare beasts whose spin-off TV show was better than the original film and now that it looks like the series may end fairly soon, it makes sense for a game to be waiting at the end of it.

Hopefully they'll take the criticism of Unreal II on board when crafting this next single player first person shooter- though we're sure that Unreal Tournament 2004 will keep fans happy for a while.
