A Caterham for the sensible speed freak

New model announced

Caterham has added another model to its legendary Seven range with a 112kW Ford Sigma engine, offering a whopping 200kW/ton performance for just £17,495.

With the K-Series engine now well and truly past its prime, Caterham introduced its new engine lineup last year. The entry-level 93kW version gave such good results when mated to the new, stiffer chassis that it was decided to use a 10% more powerful version for the mid-range model rather than was planned.

Also available is a stripped down, more track-focused model - the Superlight - with carbon-fibre front wings, six-sped gearbox and uprated suspension. That adds up to 224kW/ton and a claimed 0-62mph time of 4.6sec, for £20, 495. And that’s from a 1.6-litre engine. Phew.

More new models are under development, including a 50th anniversary one-off special.
