Internet gets speed injection

17 November 2004 7:34 GMT / By Stuart Miles

Internet speeds for some in the UK are about to get a lot faster thanks to UK Online. The company is rolling out an 8Mb adsl broadband line for the city dwelling masses.

Priced at £39.99 a month the service will be available at 230 BT exchanges in major cities across the UK by the beginning of next year.

The service is 16 times faster than the average broadband package and would mean that video on demand services and high speed downloads would become a everyday fact of life.

Unfortunately, UK Online can only offer the service to users who are within areas where the BT exchange has been unbundled. Currently this stands at around 4.4million people.
